AMD Performance Tuning Guide

Recently I stumbled across a firmware bug issue of my Samsung HD203WI rev. 1AN10002. This firmware in combination with some AMD Chipsets sometimes leads to NOT detecting the disk.
This is exactly my experience - I had to set the Chipset to SATA 3G only as the device was not detected reliably with SATA 6G.
Blog entry describing the issue - SAMSUNG support site

supend ~3W - aka power safe - not hibernate mode
idle ~60W - hard disks idle
idle ~50W - hard disks idle and without Nvidia GT630 but onboard AMD 4250
fully used (default) ~181W - Handbrake Movie Conversion with default BIOS settings
fully used (OC) ~193W - Handbrake Movie Conversion with overclocking

sometimes even optimizing won't solve your performance problems - then switch to brute force.. overclocking

Ok, I could buy a new one - but first let us see how much the old one can be pushed beyond its limits

To detemine a successful set - run a enconding. It the system is stable for several hours - you are good to go on.
- if the CPUs can not reach peak MHz rate then the memory is too slow
